In my country, Indonesia, I feel like we didn’t protect ourselves. We got sold for a very cheap price. And we have so much beauty in this country, the people included. We’ve become a dumpsite, willingly and openly, for so many years.

I don’t think we’re capable of truly understanding what is happening, because we choose not to. Even though it’s happening every day and getting closer and closer. And we still have not managed to integrate with the natural world, I mean, we’re too convinced that we’re too big to fail. And at the rate that we’re going on with this constant denial, I mean, I think it’s going to even happen way faster. It becomes numb, and you become numb so you stop thinking. And when you stop thinking, you get pushed around like a sheep. it’s so easy to just silence a community that cannot think for themselves.

WE ARE CHOOSING DENIAL

We don&rsquo;t see the impact of the issues around us every day… We live in a temperate climate, we don&rsquo;t have piles of rubbish in the sea. We don&rsquo;t have such extreme poverty in our doorstep. So it&rsquo;s very easy for young people to think : “it has nothing to do with me. It is somebody else&rsquo;s problem and well, there&rsquo;s nothing I can do“.

WE ARE DISCONNECTED

We value so much the aspect of single-use, because we do not value our own lives as more. And that’s it, people always say that we don’t care about the plastic that we’re using but at the end of the day, we’re not taught to value ourselves and to value our life and our worth. That’s why we buy one pack of shampoo because how long are we going to need to use shampoo because… it is like we have all become disposable.

Where we spent most of our time growing up, we’re being taught non-relevant things. And when we’re done with school, we don’t understand the world that we’re actually living in. Why aren’t we being taught how to go through the biggest test of all time. This ecosystem emergency that we’re in ? And aren’t we living right now in a time where the highest rate of high school drop outs are occurring and the highest rate of kids not wanting to go to university anymore? It just shows how much we want to change because it’s a waste of time. And there is no time to waste!

OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM IS BROKEN

There is an universal sound, happening right now, whether you call it a wake up call, or, you know the voices of the young people, whatever it is, it&rsquo;s happening all around the world, then it&rsquo;s reaching a frequency that every single person can feel, they cannot necessarily hear it or see it or know what it is but everybody understands that there is a massive shift happening.

A MASSIVE SHIFT IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN

No matter what, there are people out there in the world that are willing to put the purpose in front of themselves. You know how people in the older days used to say like, it&rsquo;s all about who you know. Nowadays it&rsquo;s all about what you do. And that “save the world” thing is so outdated. But you can still change your world.

BEYOND TEENAGE ANGER

It&rsquo;s not enough anymore, just to be aware or just to be inspired. And there is enough people saying the right kind of things, but there is not enough people doing the right thing. And we can’t learn that from a book. We can’t learn that going through Instagram. That needs to be lived. It’s now about unlearning and educating each other.

It&rsquo;s in these most dire situations the most otherworldly almost that you find out who you really are, and what person you wanna become. Are you the one that looks away or are you the one that gets involved and jumps in even though you know you’re risking your life.
